PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State women’s volleyball has officially hired Cassie (Thompson) Kreiger as an assistant coach as announced by head coach Korey Schroeder Thursday. Kreiger joins the Cougars’ coaching staff following a three-year tenure as an assistant coach at Whitman College.
“I am excited to support [Head Coach] Korey (Schroeder)’s vision for the program while continuing to build a tradition of excellence,” said Kreiger.
Krieger began her time in Walla Walla as a volunteer assistant coach before being promoted prior to the 2022 season. In her first season as a full-time assistant coach, Whitman posted its highest number of conference wins (8) since 2017. Krieger’s primary responsibilities at Whitman included coordinating team travel, video analysis, recruiting efforts, and middle blocker development. During her time in Walla Walla she helped the Blues earn six Northwest Conference All-Conference nods.
“I’m thrilled to have Cassie join our staff and contribute to the WSU program. She is both trustworthy and reliable, and is a great fit for our program’s culture,” said Schroeder.
A former Division III standout, Cassie (Thompson) Krieger was a first-team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection as a middle blocker. She captained her team to a second Division III NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior and ranks in the ULV career top-10 for total blocks. She graduated from La Verne in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in international business and earned her master’s degree in sports management from Washington State University in 2020. Krieger began her coaching career at the club level and has spent time coaching for both Club ZZU in Pullman and PAC Juniors in Southern California.
“Cassie already has a lot of experience in her young coaching career, and I’m excited to see her continue to develop at Washington State,” said Schroeder.
Originally from Palouse, Wash., Krieger was born in Pullman and got her first head coaching gig at Lewiston High School while completing her master’s program at WSU. She is accompanied in Pullman by husband Robby and cat, Friday.
“I am thrilled to be joining the coaching staff at my alma mater,” said Kreiger. “The culture of Cougar Athletics is so supportive and dynamic. WSU truly is a special place.”
