Volleyball Defeats No. 20 BYU for First Conference Win

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats beat No. 20 BYU in five sets (25-13, 23-25, 25-21,18-25, 15-13) on Wednesday night to mark their first Big 12 Conference win and secure their first ranked win since 2022. 

Arizona’s pin players all recorded 13 or more kills led by Jaelyn Hodge with 20 kills and a .340 hitting percentage – her seventh career match with 20 or more kills. Jordan Wilson followed with 14 skills, and Carlie Cisneros tallied 14 kills. The Wildcat’s defense tallied a season-high 14 blocks. Sophomore Journey Tucker had a break-out match with 11 blocks – the first time an Arizona player has had 10 or more blocks in a match since Zyonna Fellows in 2022. 

Arizona won the first set, 25-13, with Hodge leading the attack with five kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Cisneros followed with four kills and a .800 clip, and Wilson also had four kills. The Cats held BYU to a -.150 hitting percentage while tallying two blocks. The set started off with both teams trading points, before Arizona went on a 6-0 run to pull ahead of the Cougars. 

BYU took the second set, 25-23, to even the match. Both teams hit under .300, but BYU served three aces to overcome Arizona in the set. Hodge and Wilson both recorded five kills, while Cisneros had four kills. Tucker and Hodge teamed up for Arizona’s only block of the set. The Cats kept the set close, but BYU kept the lead the entire set.
