LINCOLN, Neb. – Rutgers volleyball took on the top team in the nation for a second time this season. The Scarlet Knights fell in three sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-12 to No. 1 Nebraska in front of 8,692 people at the Devaney Center.
The top-ranked Cornhuskers remain undefeated improving to 21-0 and 12-0 in the Big Ten. Rutgers, who was coming off a five-set victory at Iowa the night before, dropped to 10-12 overall and 2-10 in conference play.
- Set 1 (22-25) | Rutgers took a 6-5 lead by scoring four unanswered points with kills from Kristina Grkovic, Anna Hartman and Alissa Kinkela. A Cornhusker attack error equaled the frame at 7-7 when Nebraska outscored RU 5-1 to take the lead. The Scarlet Knights, however, came back to tie the opener four times with a swing from Gkrovic knotting the score at 20-20. The Cornhuskers concluded the set with five of the next seven points for the 1-0 lead. Grkovic finished with four kills hitting .429 while Bekah Williams collected six of her team-leading eight digs.
- Set 2 (15-25) | Rutgers used a 4-1 run to close to within a point at 11-10 on Kristina Grkovic’s swing from the middle. Nebraska, however, grew its lead behind an 8-2 run to go ahead 19-12. The Cornhuskers from there limited RU to three more points. Taylor Humphrey added a trio of kills for the Scarlet Knights in the set.
