Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award for Sixth Straight Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Union College women’s volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for the 2023-24 season, the association announced last week.

The team is honored for the sixth straight season and the ninth time in the last 11 years. To be recognized, collegiate and high school volleyball teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale during the school year, making the standard one of the highest among collegiate coaching associations.

Union finished the 2023-24 school year with a team GPA of 3.39 over the three trimesters to easily meet the high standard. Eight of the team’s 18 players finished the year with a cumulative GPA above 3.50, as well as 12 student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA.

On the court, Union posted a 13-13 record under second-year head coach Annie DeLoid with a lineup that regularly started at least four underclassmen.
