Volleyball Earns Two Academic All-District Selections

The Syracuse volleyball program had two student-athletes named to the 2022 Academic All-District team, which was selected by College Sports Communicators. Seniors Polina Shemanova and Lauren Woodford represent the Orange.

Outside hitter Polina Shemanova is in the Broadcast and Digital Journalism Master’s program at Newhouse. The honor marks Shemanova’s third consecutive all-district selection, as she also received the honor in 2020 and 2021. This season the St. Petersburg, Russia native became the all-time career kills leader in program history, as she has logged over 1,800 kills so far this season. Throughout the year, Shemanova racked up 389 kills and led the team with 3.93 kills per set.

Setter Lauren Woodford is studying bioengineering at the College of Engineering and Computer Science at SU. The Edina, Minnesota native has been named to the Dean’s list for five consecutive semesters, the Athletic Director honor roll for six consecutive semesters, and the ACC Academic honor roll three years in a row. Woodford led ‘Cuse in assists per set this season with 5.40 while totaling 535 assists.

The nation’s top student-athletes are honored for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominees needed a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5-or-better and had to have played in 50 percent of the team’s games. CSC Academic All-District® recipients advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
