Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for 10th-Straight Season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois volleyball team was selected as one of the United State Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award recipients for the 10th-straight season, the organization announced on Monday (July 18).

With 1,213 teams recognized, including 215 in Division I, the Illini are one of nine Big Ten schools to be honored with the accolade.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

One of the top academic teams in the Big Ten, the Illini had 11 student-athletes garner Academic All-Big Ten honors in the fall, with five Illini earning Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Awards last Thursday. Redshirt-senior Diana Brown also collected CoSIDA Academic All-America Second-Team honors as well as being named CoSIDA Academic All-District with former Illini Megan Cooney following the 2021 season.

The complete list of teams honored by the AVCA and full release can be found here.
