VOLLEYBALL EMPOWERMENT ELEVATES JORDANIAN NATIONAL TEAMS

“FIVB’s support has been instrumental to growing passion for the sport” – JVF President Princess Aya

With the assistance of coach support through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme, the Jordanian national teams have undergone remarkable growth while grassroots efforts have accelerated since the arrival of Argentinean coach Matias Oliver.

With a total investment of CHF 36,000, coach Oliver has already made a positive impact on volleyball in Jordan. He has taken on the responsibility of overseeing all local tournaments organised by the federation, with a focus on age group events. Through his involvement, a comprehensive preparation plan for the national teams has been developed in collaboration with the Jordan Volleyball Federation (JVF).

As part of the project, Oliver has successfully worked with the national teams, implementing a new coaching philosophy and assigning dedicated coaches to each team. This includes the men’s national team, the women’s national team, the junior and youth national teams.

Additionally, he has taken steps to enhance the resources available to grassroots centres across different regions of the country. Oliver also leads courses for Jordanian trainers, providing them with up-to-date technical knowledge and expertise.

Meanwhile, the women’s national team has seen tremendous progress and historic achievements. Most notably, the team secured second place among ten participating teams at the 2022 West Asian Championship in Amman. Oliver had also worked with the national team in preparation for the Arab Games that took place in Algeria.

Meanwhile, the men’s national team is gearing up for their participation in the Arab Championship in Iraq this September, while the youth national team is preparing for the West Asian Championship in Saudi Arabia in August.

In autumn of this year, the next FIVB Volleyball Empowerment coach support project will get underway in Jordan, with an additional investment of CHF 36,000.
