Volleyball Falls to Army In Home Opener

Hofstra

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Volleyball team was bested by Army on Thursday night, with the match ending in favor of the Black Knights, 3-1.

“Finding consistency is going to be the key moving forward,” said head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. “We need to minimize the errors and capitalize on the things that we did right tonight. In the third set, for example, we saw a lot of things that we can build on moving into our two games tomorrow.

The Orange (3-4, 0-0 ACC) lost to the Black Knights (3-5, 0-0 Patriot League) in four sets (22-25, 19-25, 25-14, 22-25).

‘Cuse took the third set of the evening by a margin of 11 points, the largest set win margin of the season. Unfortunately, the Orange couldn’t hang on in the fourth set, falling to Army by just 3 points in the final set of the evening.

The Orange paced the Black Knights in points (67-61), kills (48-47), aces (6-4), blocks (13-10), assists (42-40), and digs (64-57).

Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk and Polina Shemanova both registered double-doubles in tonight’s action. Lohkmanchuk recorded 12 kills and 10 digs, while Shemanova logged 11 kills and 10 digs.

The Orange will be back tomorrow with a doubleheader lined up on the second day of the Syracuse tournament, as they are set to face Hofstra (11 a.m.) and Yale (7:30 p.m.). Both games will stream live over ACCNX.
