Volleyball Falls To ASU In Straight Sets

Lipscomb

FORT MYERS – Ole Miss volleyball dropped its final match of the FGCU Homewood Suites Invitational, falling to Arizona State in straight sets.

Early deficits cost the Rebels (0-3, 0-0 SEC) as they were unable to climb back into sets and slow down the Sun Devil offense (3-0, 0-0 Pac-12). Sophomore setter Aly Borellis eclipsed the 1,000 career assist mark in the match, finishing with 26. Senior Anna Bair picked up 10 kills, moving her into third in the rally scoring era and 10th all-time at Ole Miss with 1,205 in her Rebel career.

After an early feeling out period by both teams, ASU used a 5-1 run to get separation in the opening set. Shayla Meyer and Bair kept Ole Miss within striking distance, leading the way with four kills each, but a late 4-0 push gave the Sun Devils the first set.

The Rebels came out sluggish in set two, digging themselves a 13-2 hole. Ole Miss continued to fight, getting within four points; however, ASU capped off the set with a 7-2 run.

Ole Miss fell behind again in the third set. Trailing 10-3, the Rebels couldn’t muster up enough to climb back into the match as Arizona State picked up the victory in straight sets.

At the conclusion of the match, Ole Miss’ Sasha Ratliff was named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 28 kills and 11 blocks on the weekend.

The Rebels are back in action next week at the LUV Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday and Friday.
