Volleyball Finishes 2021 Season at Skidmore Invite

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women’s volleyball team finished up its 2021 season on Saturday at the Skidmore College Invitational, falling to SUNY New Paltz by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-10, 25-17) score and SUNY Potsdam by a 3-1 (13-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-19) margin.

New Paltz 3, Union 0

Sophomore Keara Page led Union with six kills in the first match of the day, as the Dutchwomen fell in straight sets to the Hawks.

Both teams traded mini-runs in the first set, with Union holding the edge for much of the frame. The Dutchwomen led 16-12 after a Siragusa ace forced a New Paltz timeout, but the Hawks responded with a 12-2 run to regain control and take the opening set.

The Hawks jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead on the way to an easy second-set win, while New Paltz also started quickly in the third set with a 12-3 run that allowed the Hawks to keep Union as a distance.

Potsdam 3, Union 1

Union started strong in the second match of the afternoon, but the Dutchwomen dropped a close second set and then came up just short in the third and fourth frames as well.

Senior Jessica Siragusa had a big effort in her final collegiate match, putting down a career-high 14 kills and also leading the team with 18 digs. Sophomore Morgan Bohlke also reached double figures with 10 kills, while junior Haley Kresch set up the offense with a team-best 21 assists.

Saturday’s matches mark the final collegiate contests for Union’s two seniors, Siragusa and Olivia Salvador.
