Volleyball Honors Seniors in Home Finale

Oswego State

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women’s volleyball team closed out its home and Liberty League schedule on Saturday afternoon, as the Dutchwomen dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) match to St. Lawrence University at Viniar Athletic Center.

Union’s two seniors led the way defensively for Union (5-16, 0-7 Liberty League) in their final home match, as Olivia Salvador led the team with 14 digs while Jessica Siragusa added eight digs and a block to go with two kills. Sophomore Keara Page paced the Dutchwoman attack with eight kills.

The first set was the most competitive of the three, featuring seven ties and five lead changes. The Dutchwomen led by as many as three on two occasions, coming after a Salvador ace made the score 12-9 and a kill by junior Julia Webster put Union up 14-11. But the Saints responded with nine of the next 10 points after Webster’s kill to regain the lead as part of an extended 14-3 run to end the set.

The Saints never trailed in the second stanza, as the home team could not string together more than two straight points until very late in the frame. The third set followed a similar script, as an early 8-1 run put the visitors ahead and the Dutchwomen could not come all the way back.

Union will close out the 2021 season at the Skidmore College Invitational next weekend, beginning on Friday night with a 7 p.m. match against Oswego State.
