SYRACUSE, N.Y – Syracuse volleyball head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam announced the addition of two signees on Friday afternoon.
Zharia Harris-Waddy and Veronica Sierzant will join Syracuse in the fall of 2023.
“My staff and I are very excited to welcome the start of our 2023 incoming class,” said Ganesharatnam. “This is only the beginning of a group that will create a culture of success for years to come.”
Incoming freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy comes to Syracuse from Lawnside, N.J., where she attended Paul VI High School. The middle blocker played for the Eagles for four years under head coach Dan Chung and served as team captain during her junior and senior campaigns. Harris-Waddy helped the eagles to their first-ever state championship title in 2021. She also brings seven years of club volleyball experience to the table (Jersey Juniors). Zharia’s cousin, Billy Hunter (’65) played football at Syracuse.
The Lawnside, N.J. native holds a plethora of accolades as well, as she was named to first-team all-conference three years in a row (2020, 2021, 2022), 2021 First-Team All-State, and is the back-to-back MVP of her high school program (2021, 2022).
Harris-Waddy thrives in the classroom as well, as she is a member of the National Honor Society, African American History Club, American Sign Language Club, and Peer Leadership. She also served as the Student Council Vice President for all four years.

Incoming freshman Veronica Sierzant will join the Orange from Savannah, Georgia, where she attended Islands High School. The outside hitter played for the Sharks for four years under head coach Jessica Decker. During her career at Islands High, Sierzant played basketball, soccer, and ran track in addition to volleyball. During her senior campaign, Sierzant served as a team captain.
The outside hitter brings a total of seven years of club experience to ‘Cuse as well, as Sierzant played for Clubb Savannah for five years and the Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association for two.
Sierzant holds several accolades, as she was tabbed a 2022 AVCA High School Second-Team All-American and was named the 2021 Islands High School Volleyball MVP.
