Volleyball Preview: Lady Vols Battle No. 18 Kentucky in Lexington


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Riding a four-match win streak, the Lady Vols volleyball team heads north for a Wednesday night showdown against 18th-ranked Kentucky. First serve from Memorial Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
UT took down Georgia at home in five sets, a win that was sparked by junior Jasmine Brooks’ career-high 20 kills. The Toney, Alabama, native hit .310 on the night and finished with four digs, one solo block and one block assist.
 
MAHAFFEY’S RETURN
Since 2021 AVCA All-American Danielle Mahaffey returned to the court against Ole Miss on Nov. 2, the Lady Vols have won four consecutive matches. In those victories, UT is hitting .316, averaging 14.18 kills per set and is holding opponents to a .179 hit percentage.
 
In Tennessee’s first 21 matches without Mahaffey, they hit .248, averaged 13.23 kills per set and allowed opponents a hit rate of .246.
 
ATTACKING DUO
Tennessee’s attacking duo of Morgahn Fingall and Erykah Lovett have both eclipsed the 300-kill mark this season. Fingall leads the team with a career-high 359 and is closely followed by Lovett at 328 – also a career-best.
 
The pair average 4.17 and 3.57 kills per set, respectively, with Fingall’s 4.17 leading the Southeastern Conference. 
 
BREAKOUT FRESHMAN
True freshman Keondreya Granberry has been a breakout player this season. After being sidelined for much of the summer with an injury, Granberry came off the bench in Tennessee’s season opener and has not come out of the lineup since.
 
She is third on the team in kills with 123 and leads the squad in blocks at 79.
 
WINDICATORS
Tennessee is 11-4 when it hits better than .250 this season and is 12-2 when it wins the second set. During Eve Rackham Watt‘s tenure, UT is 59-8 when it hits .250 or better.
 
Under Rackham Watt, the Lady Vols are 68-10 when they win the second set.
