Volleyball Remains Perfect at Home

Penn State Berks

The Muhlenberg volleyball team made it three sweeps in three home matches with a shutout of Marywood.

The Mules (6-4) held the Pacers (5-6) to only 9 kills against 20 attack errors. Muhlenberg scored more points on service aces than Marywood did on kills.

Sophomore Esmae Oehler (12 kills) and freshman Christina Marcin (11 kills) led the Mule attack. Oehler added 10 digs for her first double-double of the season, while Marcin reached double figures in kills for the 10th time in as many career matches.

One Mule did have a long streak broken, however: Junior Alyssa Faville, who entered the match leading the Centennial Conference in digs per set, recorded 8 digs – her first time not in double figures in 35 career matches.

Muhlenberg trailed 7-5 in the first set before going on a 10-0 run. Faville served 4 aces during the run, which also featured a pair of kills by Marcin, who was at the service line for a 7-0 run later in the set that sent the Mules on their way to a 25-12 win.

The second set was close, at 18-17, before Muhlenberg pulled away to win 25-19. Sophomore Piper Schwenk played setter during the latter stages of the set, which finished with three straight kills by senior Amirah Moody, Oehler and sophomore Catherine Maguire.

A 7-0 run with junior Isabella Pontrelli serving gave the Mules separation in the third set. Marcin’s kill finished off the set at 25-16 and ended the match.
