Volleyball Takes on Tough Opposition

Marywood

The Muhlenberg volleyball team took a pair of losses to two teams with a combined record of 17-4.

The second set was the highlight of both matches for the Mules (5-4), who fell to host Salisbury in three and Virginia Wesleyan in four.

After dropping the first set of the Salisbury match, 25-17, Muhlenberg played a nip-and-tuck second set that was tied at 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14. The Mules appeared to be pulling away when they scored eight straight points on the serve of junior Alyssa Faville, but the Sea Gulls came right back to knot the set at 21.

Each team had multiple set points before Salisbury finally won the marathon, 31-29. The Sea Gulls closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.

Muhlenberg got off to a rough start against Virginia Wesleyan, dropping the first set 25-6, but responded nicely in the second set, evening the match with a 25-20 win that ended with three straight kills by freshman Christina Marcin. The Marlins captured the next two sets, though.

Marcin led the Mules with 26 kills in the two matches, while sophomore Esmae Oehler added 17. Faville (pictured above) pulled up a total of 37 digs.
