Volleyball Wraps Up Season at Michigan State & Michigan


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers volleyball team wraps up the 2022 season on the road this week wrapping up the season series with Michigan State and Michigan. The Scarlet Knights meet the Spartans on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. and the Wolverines on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
 

 

    

  • Redshirt freshman Alissa Kinkela leads the Scarlet Knight offense at 2.57 k/s and is coming off a Big Ten-high 14 kills in RU’s last road match at Iowa and 11 against No. 9 Minnesota last Sunday. Kinkela has RU on the attack 12 times this season, including the last three-straight matches.
  • Freshman Taylor Humphrey is second on the stat sheet at 2.53 k/s. The rookie has led RU in kills 14 times and has had 11 double-figure kill matches. Among her top performances are 16 kills at No. 5 Purdue and 11 kills against No. 15 Penn State and Iowa. 
  • Assisting the offense has been redshirt junior Lauren DeLo. DeLo is putting up 6.72 helpers per set and ranks 10th in the Big Ten. 
  • Junior middle Kristina Grkovic, meanwhile, leads the squad with 30 aces, including a career-high five in RU’s victory over FDU in the final nonconference weekend. Grkovic is also third on the team in kills at 2.13 k/s. On defense, she has racked up 98 blocks, coming up with 1.04 b/s. She recently joined the Rutgers rally-era season total, solo and assist blocks leaders list.
  • Graduate student Vernon leads RU with 102 total blocks and is among the all-time rally-era leaders in season solo, assist and total blocks. Vernon needs two more solo blocks to tie for the rally-era season leader. She is also swinging at a team-leading .265 clip for the offense.
  • Junior Madyson Chitty is averaging 2.75 d/s this season and is fourth in the rally era with 3.08 d/s over her career. More recently she became the seventh Scarlet Knight to surpass the 800-career dig mark in the rally era.

  • The Scarlet Knights are coming off its final home games at Jersey Mike’s Arena nearly capturing sets off top-10 opponents. In the second set with No. 3 Wisconsin on Friday night, the set was tied at 24-24 before the national champs took the final two points. No. 9 Minnesota, meanwhile, needed extra points to take the third set on Sunday.
