Warriors fall to Dakota State and Bellevue

FOREST CITY, IA — The Waldorf Volleyball Team finished its 2021 season with North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) losses on Friday night to Dakota State (14-25, 6-25, 29-27, 21-25) and Saturday to Bellevue (21-25, 14-25, 14-25) at Hanson Fieldhouse.  

In Friday’s match, the Warriors avoided a sweep by fighting back in the third set.  Facing elimination down 24-23, the Warriors were able to extend the contest and pull out a 29-27 victory for their only set win of the weekend.  

Friday’s contest saw three Waldorf players register double-digit kills.  Freshman right side hitter Zoee Pond (Monroe, WI/Monroe HS) led the Warriors with 13 kills.  Junior middle blocker Abygail Wood (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial HS) tallied 11, and sophomore outside hitter Alisha Schaefer (Mount Calvary, VI/New Holstein HS) notched ten.  

Sophomore defensive specialist Kaylee Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) tied for the game high with 19 digs.  Junior setter Kaitlyn Bakke (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake HS) registered a game-high 36 assists.

In Saturday’s game, Schaefer led the way for Waldorf with nine kills.  Kaylee Kidd‘s 20 digs were the most for any player on either squad.  Kaitlyn Bakke tied for the game high with 24 assists.

Waldorf finishes the Fall 2021 season with an overall record of 11-16 and a 2-12 record in the NSAA.  The 11 wins marks a seven-win improvement from the 2020-21 campaign.
