Seattle, Washington – The Washington Husky Beach Volleyball team set out for day two of the Husky Invitational at Alki Beach. After a dominant performance on day one, the Dawgs were eager to keep the winning streak alive.
With some inclement weather on the forecast, the Huskies were in their element to take on Portland in the Semifinals, then eventually Boise State in the Championship. Proving their motto, “Gritty By Nature” to be true, Washington battled through the rain to grab two dominant wins. Coach Derek Olson commented on this challenging day on Alki beach.
“We were gritty all weekend and in our element,” he said, “I thought our 2’s and 4’s pairs were really on point all weekend. It’s great to see both pairs improving the way they are.”
After the win, the Huskies honored their senior class of Hannah Yerex, Teagan DeFalco, Mary Sinclair, Paloma Bowman, Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen. With this being the one and only home tournament of the season, the Huskies showed out for their home crowd and to celebrate this remarkable senior class.
“I’m glad we got to send the seniors off right,” he said, “They have obviously made a huge impact on our season.”
Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen are the two most winningest players in program history. This pair has seen the evolution of Husky Beach Volleyball and has had a major impact on the success of the program.
“Chloe and Natalie are the two that will go down in our programs history as the foundation of this programs success”, coach Olson said, “The impact they’ve had on the program and me personally can’t be understated. We have a few more weeks left to really cap off a special season so I’m exciting see what else we can get done.”
Washington heads to Los Angeles next weekend to take on LMU and No. 19 Pepperdine.
Portland
In the semifinal match the Huskies faced off against Portland. After sweeping the Pilots yesterday, the Huskies set out to do it again. All pairs took to the courts for the first match of the day. The first pair to finish up were Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen at pair No. 1. The Huskies defeated Valenti/Stammberger 21-16, then a dominant 21-8 to give the Dawgs their first point.
Next to finish up was the No. 5 pair Shannon Gormally and Hannah Yerex who took on Lee/Mumolo. The Huskies defeated the Pilots 21-12, 21-15. Shortly after, the No. 2 pair Kendall Mather and Piper Monk-Heidrich took on Helm/Harris. The pair secured…
