Wildcats Win First Game of Aztec Invitational

San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Arizona beat Sacramento State, 3-2, in the first game of the Aztec Invitational. Three Wildcats recorded 13 or more kills, led by Alayna Johnson and Sofia Maldonado Diaz with 15 kills each. Jaelyn Hodge had 13 kills.
 
Match 1 | Arizona 3, Sacramento State 2
Arizona beat Sacramento State 3-2 in the first game of the day. In a back-and-forth first set, the Hornets won 25-19. The Wildcats evened the match with a 25-14 second set win. Johnson led the offense in Set 2 with seven kills. Sacramento State won the third set 25-23. Arizona won the fourth set 25-17 to force a fifth set. Freshman Lauren Rumel led Arizona with four kills in Set 4. The Cats won the fifth set, 15-13 to secure the match win.
 
Johnson recorded a career-high 15 kills with a .480 clip. Emery Herman recorded her second double-double of the season with 46 assists and 12 digs. Herman is now ranked 10th in Arizona history for career assists.
