CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Merrimack College Women’s volleyball team fell to Harvard in three sets Thursday night.
The Basics
Score: Harvard 3, Merrimack 0
Records: Harvard (6-1, 0-0), Merrimack (1-7,0-0)
How It Happened
The first set of play started with each team trading points. Merrimack kept it close throughout the entirety of the set until Harvard was able to make a late push and pull away at the end and take it away 25-20.
Set number two was nothing like the first. Harvard struck early and often took a commanding lead with a pair of 4 and 5 point runs that put the Warriors in a hole and were ultimately not able to dig out of. The Crimson would capture set two 25-14.
Set number three was once again a back and forth affair early on. Merrimack held a lead 5-4 before Harvard started to take over. The Crimson would take a healthy 18-11 lead and looked poised to finish it in three sets but coach Ray Lewis’ team did not quit and rattled off 4 straight points to bring them within striking distance at 18-15. However, Harvard did not falter and was able to clean up mistakes and put together a nice finishing effort and down the Warriors in set three, 25-19, winning three straight sets and improving to 6-1 on the year.
