Women’s Volleyball Falls to Nazareth on Friday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team fell to the visiting Golden Flyers on Friday evening, 3-0. The Soaring Eagles fought through the first two sets before the visitors ran away in the third, posting a hitting percentage of .529% in the frame.
 
Morgan Richardson ’25 and Maddie Boucher ’24 paced Elmira with five kills, while Asia Curkendall ’25 chipped in 14 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Trailing 17-9 in the opening frame, the Soaring Eagles used a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to just three before the Golden Flyers retook a lead of five after two consecutive points. From there, Nazareth’s lead decreased to as little three after a kill from Richardson, but Nazareth took the final three points of the set on a service error by Elmira and a pair of service aces from Nazareth’s Ruth Jackson.

 

In the second, EC was able to jump out to an early 13-7 lead as part of two attacking errors, a service ace from Gianna Pezzino ’23, and a kill from Richardson. The Golden Flyers would then use a run of its own, going on a 9-3 run to tie the set at 16-16. After a point from the Soaring Eagles, Nazareth would score nine of the final ten points to take the set, 25-18.

 

In the frame, the Soaring Eagles hit .-038% as a team, while the Golden Flyers hit .344% with 15 kills.
