NORTH ANDOVER, MA– The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team fell to Conference foe Sacred Heart University despite a late third set effort.

How It Happened
Both teams traded points for the first ten points until the Pioneers tallied five straight points to take an 11-8 advantage. Marissa Kobelski and Mckenna Shotwell delivered a pair of kills to tighten the gap to one point. The Pioneers found their footing late in the first set, as they ignited a 6-1 run to win 25-17. Looking for a comeback, the Warriors jumped to a 7-5 advantage in the second set. Sacred Heart notched four straight points to tie the score but the Warriors had four kills mid-set to hold a steady two point lead. Ultimately, the Pioneers would find their path, igniting a 5-2 run to win the set 25-21. The third set began just as close as the second but the Warriors picked up two service aces to edge out the Pioneers by two points. Both teams were tied at 22, however, after a Merrimack timeout the Warriors were able to reset and capitalize off Pioneer attack errors to win the set 26-24. In the fourth and final set of the match, the Warriors had the Pioneers fighting for every point. It was a two point game for majority of the set until the Pioneers posted a 5-1 run to extend a six point lead. The Warriors gave it their all but lost the set 25-20.
