Women’s Volleyball Falls to William Penn University

Oskaloosa – The Graceland University Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the William Penn University Statesmen (21-25,17-25,19-25) in Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) action.  

During the first set, Graceland was training behind until the score tied at the ten-point mark. After trailing by eight, Graceland scored eight straight to tie the set. With the scoring tieing multiple times William Penn held a slight lead just a few rallies later and prevented a late comeback. They would take set one from the Yellowjackets, 21-25.

Graceland led early in the second set but saw William Penn take the lead back after the score tied at three. The Yellowjackets kept close behind until William Penn scored five straight and led to an ending score of 17-25.

In the third set William Penn kept a tight lead against Graceland. With the teams being one point a part at any giving time during the first half, Graceland fought hard. William Penn would hold onto their lead throughout the second half of the set and complete the three-set sweep. They took set three by a score of 19-25.

Statistically, Jasmine Fonoti led the team with nine kills while Arissa Carpenter added eight of her own.  Megan Janok had 13 assists to lead Graceland and Mary Kelly led the team in digs with 11 in the match. Graceland had an attacking percentage of .066 and William Penn had an attacking percentage of .266 to help them to the three-set win.

The Yellowjackets will now prepare for another away bgame in Baldwin City, Kansas against Baker University October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
