Women’s Volleyball Finishes 2-0 at North Country Classic on Friday Evening

CANTON/POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team took a pair of games in the North Country Classic on Friday afternoon, posting a 3-0 win over SUNY Canton before defeating Empire 8 opponent Utica University (non-conference match) 3-1 in the nightcap.

After cruising to a 3-0 win on the campus of SUNY Canton, the Soaring Eagles would take the quick trip up to SUNY Potsdam where after losing the first set, tallied three straight set victories to win the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. CANTON):

In Elmira’s first match of the day, the Soaring Eagles wasted no time getting to work as they reached double digit kills in each of the three sets. In the opener, despite 12 attacking errors and a negative hitting percentage, the Soaring Eagles were able to push the set to extra points, coming away with an eventual 28-26 first set win. 

In the frame, Elmira held onto a 24-20 lead before the Roos stormed back for four consecutive points to push the set. With SUNY Canton eventually leading 26-25, EC was able to score three consecutive points on kills from Calli Vocke ’23 and Morgan Richardson ’25, along with a service ace from Cami Witchley ’25 to take the win. 

In the second set, the Soaring Eagles fell behind 9-7 before rallying off six straight points, including three service aces from Asia Curkendall ’25. After trading points back and forth and a late rally from the Roos, Elmira…
