Women’s Volleyball Splits on Saturday at the Plattsburgh State Classic

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team finished the day 1-1 at the Plattsburgh State Classic on Saturday afternoon. After taking the first match over SUNY Poly in straight-sets, the Soaring Eagles fell in five sets to the host, Plattsburgh State in the last game of the afternoon.
 
Amelia Martin ’23 led the Soaring Eagles against SUNY Poly with 13 kills and six service aces, while Samantha Garry ’25 recorded 13 kills and five blocks in the loss to the Cardinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED (ELMIRA vs. CANTON):

The Soaring Eagles wasted no time getting to work against the Wildcats. After trailing 15-11 in the opening set, the Soaring Eagles rattled off five consecutive points with Martin at the service position to reclaim the lead at 16-15. With the set eventually tied at 17-17, Elmira would score nine of the final 11 points in the set, capped off by a kill from Makenna Clark ’25 to take the opener 25-21.

 

From there, Elmira would run away with the final two sets of the match, posting hitting percentages of .360 and .400 in the second and third sets, respectively. In the second, Elmira would use a 7-0 run to end the set with three kills and two service aces, winning 25-11.

 

In the third, EC would dominate the Wildcats with a 25-7 victory to seal the deal. In the set, Elmira would score 14 of the final 16 points to propel its way to victory.
