Women’s Volleyball Stagnated by Fairfield

NORTH ANDOVER, MA– The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team fell to the MAAC leading Fairfield University Stags in three sets at Hammel Court on Saturday.

 

The Basics

Score: Fairfield 3, Merrimack: 0

Records: Merrimack (6-18, 5-8), Fairfield (15-10, 13-0)

 

How It Happened

The Warriors and Stags played a tightly contested first set. Despite Fairfield having the lead for majority of the set, Merrimack refused to go away keeping it within 2-4 points but couldn’t find their way over the hump as the Stags held them off to win the set 25-21. In the 2nd set the Warriors stormed out to a 4-1 lead before the Stags responded scoring 6 of the next 7 points and solidified their lead with a late 4-0 run that led to a 25-19 2nd set win. Fairfield opened up the 3rd set scoring 13 of the first 14 points and never looked back winning the set 25-9.

Morgan Thurlow led the way with 9 kills and 10 points

Mckenna Shotwell tabbed 15 digs for the Warriors

Sophia DeBonis notched 14 assists

The Warriors will remain home to host the Sacred Heart University Pioneers at Hammel Court Sunday at 1 PM.
