WorldofVolley :: Unprecedented achievement: Italy wins 6th youth continental title in 2012 – Men’s U20 NT on top of Europe

The Italian volleyball is completely colored in gold at the end of the series of European youth championships this year.

Even the Italy U20 Men’s National Team is the European champion. The boys commanded by Matteo Battocchio signed a page in the history of continental volleyball. They won the sixth gold at the youth level in 2022, which is a stunt that will be very difficult to match in the future by not only Italy but any national team in Europe. Prior to the Italy U20 Men, titles were claimed during the last couple of months by U17 Women, U18 Men, U19 Women, U21 Women, and U22 Men. An unequivocal demonstration that Italy is the leading nation in the Old Continent (senior national teams are the reigning champions of the ‘Old Continent’ for both genders) was sealed when the Italy U20 Men beat Poland in the final of the CEV U20 EuroVolley 2022 at home in Montesilvano with a score of 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 17-25, 15-6).

Alessandro Alberto Bovolenta, the son of late Vigor Bovolenta, the great Italian player and winner of the CEV EuroVolley 1995 and five FIVB World Leagues, top-scored for the ‘Azzurri’ in the gold medal encounter with 20 points. Luca Porro served 6 aces. Mattia Boninfante, also a son of a former renowned Italian player, Dante Boninfante, made 4 blocks. Tytus Nowik put down 19 points on the losing side. Jakub Majchrzak had 77% attack (10/13), while Maksym Kedzierski made 77% reception (13 digs, 1 error, 38% excellent).
