Cortland graduate student right-side hitter Zoe Staats (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2. Staats won the award for the second time this season.
Staats averaged 4.3 kills per set and had a .571 attack percentage (26 kills, 2 errors in 42 attempts) during two Cortland three-set wins in SUNYAC play last weekend. She finished with 12 kills and no errors in 18 attempts (.667) in a win over visiting Fredonia on Friday and had 14 kills and two errors in 24 attempts (.500) in a sweep of visiting Buffalo State Saturday.
So far this fall, Staats is averaging 3.1 kills and 0.6 blocks per set in 49 sets and has a .352 attack percentage (154 kills, 40 errors, 324 attempts). She currently ranks third in the SUNYAC in attack percentage and fourth in kills per set.
Cortland (11-3, 5-0 SUNYAC) is currently in first place in the SUNYAC standings. The Red Dragons travel to Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday for league matches. Brockport is currently 3-0 in conference play.
