LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 21 Utah Volleyball team closed out its inaugural trip to the Sunflower State as a member of the Big 12, falling to the No. 9 Kansas Jayhawks, 0-3 (16-25, 21-25, 22-25). This meeting with the Jayhawks was Utah’s fifth top-25 conference contest since Big 12 action began.
Utah came out of the gates slowly, falling behind early 10-5, as Kansas posted a seven-point scoring run to get the action started. The Utes fought back from a four-point deficit at the midway point, trailing 15-11. The Jayhawks sparked a five-point run to extend the advantage to 20-11. The two sides continued to exchange points before the home side finished out the first set with a 25-16 win.
The Utes kept it close throughout the early stages before Kansas put together its first four-point run, taking an 11-6 lead. Utah climbed back to within one, getting three consecutive kills from Kamryn Gibadlo, trailing 13-12. Battling back and forth, Utah was unable to string more than two consecutive points together down the stretch, before Kansas sealed the second set, 25-21.
Utah would not go down without a fight in the third set, trailing by as many as eight points, 20-12. The Utes chipped away at the Kansas lead, taking advantage of some Jayhawk miscues and getting kills from Gibadlo and Kamry Bailey to make it a 20-15 game.
