5TH ASIAN U19 BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS NOW UNDERWAY IN THAILAND

Roi Et, Thailand, May 1, 2024 – The General Technical Meeting of the 5th Asian U19 Beach Volleyball Championships was held on Tuesday at M Grand Hotel here, with Thailand Volleyball Association President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, Roi Et Municipality Mayor Mr Banjong Kositjiranan and AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert jointly presiding.

 

Also in attendance were Roi Et Deputy Mayor Dr Nuchakorn Maschamadol, Technical Delegate Mr Kritsada Panaseri from Thailand, Referee Delegate Mr Nader Ansari from Iran, Ms Nattalida Sumdangdech, AVC Officer in charge of AVC Beach Volleyball Department, and all participating 53 teams including 32 men’s pairs.

 

Best young players from 17 AVC Affiliated National Federations considered to be future stars are taking part in the five-day championships from May 1 to 5, which serve as the qualification tournament for the 2024 FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships between August 27 to September 1 in Shangluo, China. Best five Federations in Roi Et will secure berths in main draw of the world meet, with another four Federations testing their mettle in the qualifying rounds.

The participating Federations in the Asian meet in Roi Et comprise Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong China, Kazakhstan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Qatar, Oman, Singapore, Maldives, Lebanon and hosts Thailand.

In the Tuesday’s meeting, TVA President Mr Somporn, AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit and Roi Et Mayor Mr Kosit delivered their welcome speeches and wished all participating teams the best of luck in the championships and a nice stay in Thailand. Souvenirs were also presented to all participating teams.

After that, drawing of lots was held, with Technical Delegate Mr Kritsada, Referee Delegate Mr Nader Ansari and Ms Nattalida jointly conducting and explaining on rules and regulations to be applied for use in the championships, uniformity and other important matters including the competition system and quotas for the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships in China.

Teams were split into six pools from Pool A to Pool F in the women’s event and eight pools from Pool A to Pool H in the men’s division to compete in pool round-robin preliminaries from May 1 to 3. Round of 16 will also take place on May 3, with the quarterfinals being organized the following day. Semifinals and finals in both men’s and women’s events will be held on May 5.
