COLUMBUS, OHIO – The No. 6-seed Lewis University men’s volleyball team lost, 3-1, at No. 3-seed Ohio State in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament quarterfinal Saturday (April 13). The loss marks the end of the Flyers’ season.
“I’m proud of how the guys grinded and fought today, I thought we did some nice things with our net play, especially with our block and we battled all the way to the end,” head coach Dan Friend said after the match. “I also want to thank our seniors and all the hard work they put in over the past few years and best of luck on their next stage in life.”

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Ohio State 26, Lewis 24
Lewis took a 5-3 lead early with two kills and two blocks. A kill by Drolsum and back-to-back Ohio State attack errors gave the Flyers a 3-0 run to push the lead to 9-5.
The Buckeyes took six of the next eight points to tie it, 11-11. Kills by Roquet and Drolsum put Lewis back up, 15-14, and both sides traded points from there until it was tied at 20.
Service aces by Morgan and Roquet helped the Flyers regain the lead, 24-23, but OSU took three points in a row to capture the first set.
Set 2: Lewis 27, Ohio State 25
Lewis once again took an early lead, going up 7-3 as Baggs had two block assists and an ace in the early going. The Flyers pushed the lead to 9-4 before Ohio State used a 5-1 charge to make it a one-point game, 10-9.
Three kills for Lewis put the lead back up to 13-10 but the Buckeyes then took three straight points to tie the set at 13. Later, another 3-0 run for OSU made it 18-16 Ohio State.
The Flyers wouldn’t go away, though, taking four of the next six including a solo block and kill by Deyan Todorov (Sofia, Bulgaria/51st Secondary) to tie it at 20. After the Buckeyes took the next three points, Lewis used a 4-1 run including two more kills by Todorov to get tied at 24.
