Bramschreiber eligible for second half of season

MADISON, Wis. — Head coach Kelly Sheffield has announced that Shanel Bramschreiber, a transfer from Baylor University, will be eligible to play in the second half of the 2022 season, according to an NCAA decision today.

“I am heartbroken and disappointed for Shanel,” said Sheffeild. “She is an outstanding student-athlete and representative for collegiate athletics. She made a decision to explore a professional career and is being penalized unfairly for deciding that continuing her education and her collegiate playing career was in her best interest. She is the exact type of individual we should be using to promote NCAA athletics instead of penalizing.”

A four-year letterwinner at Baylor University, Bramschreiber spent the last two seasons as the Bears’ starting libero. She was named the 2020 Big 12 Conference Libero of the Year and earned first-team All-Big 12 honors. The Plano, Texas, native ranked sixth in the Big 12 in digs per set as a junior and as a senior.

The 5-foot-8 Bramschreiber played in 96 matches and 340 sets at Baylor, total 922 digs for her career, averaging 2.7 digs per set. She also added 74 service aces, averaging 0.21 aces per set. Bramschreiber recorded 10-or-more digs in 53 matches, including 20-plus digs in five matches. She had a career-high 24 digs vs. Texas Tech on Oct. 1, 2021 and a career-high four service aces vs. Texas State on March 10, 2021. The libero posted her first-career double-double vs. Pepperdine on April 15, 2021, with 11 digs and a career-high 11 assists

Bramschreiber graduated from Baylor in May 2021 with a degree in communications and sport management, and earned her master’s degree in education from Baylor in 2022. She was a three-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 team and four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
