EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of the Ducks’ 2-0 opening weekend and their individual efforts, Brooke Nuneviller and Mimi Colyer have been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. This marks the 10th-career Pac-12 weekly honor for Nuneviller.
The Ducks’ 2022 home opener is Thursday, Sept. 1, against UC Davis as part of the three-day Oregon Invitational. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon is up one spot to No. 18 in Monday’s release of the AVCA national rankings.
Nuneviller opened the 2022 season with a 28-kill performance in the Ducks’ five-set victory over Long Beach State. That figure was the high mark by a Pac-12 player and tied for the fifth most in the nation during the opening weekend. In the decisive fifth set, Nuneviller accounted for seven of the team’s 13 kills, and finished the match with a .312 hitting percentage.
The match represented the fifth of her career with 25 or more kills. She also had 12 digs to complete the 49th double-double of her career and added two service aces against LBSU.
The Chandler, Ariz., native followed with 12 kills, nine digs, two blocks and an ace in a straight-set road win at Portland State. Nuneviller committed just two attack errors for a .417 efficiency, and finished the weekend with a .341 hitting percentage. She currently leads the Pac-12 and ranks eighth in the NCAA at 5.00 kills per set.
Colyer began her collegiate career with a double-double—16 kills, 12 digs—and had the match-winning ace against Long Beach State. She did not commit an attack error in the final three sets, hitting .389 over that stretch of the match. She was one of three UO players with two service aces against LBSU, joining Nuneviller and libero Georgia Murphy.
In Sunday’s sweep of Portland State, the Lincoln, Calif., native led all players with 13 kills including the final tally on Oregon’s second match point. Colyer hit .409 against the Vikings to go along with four digs and three blocks. She finished the weekend with a .311 hitting percentage and 3.63 kills per set, a mark good for ninth in the Pac-12.
