Red River Athletic Conference – RRAC volleyball players of the week selected for Sept. 5-11

Rebekah Bustamante guided OLLU to a pair of conference victories last week.

WACO, Texas — Kennedy Wade of Xavier University (La.) was tabbed as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Sept. 5-11. Rebekah Bustamante of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) earned RRAC Setter of the Week, and Xavier’s Linda Mungai was recognized as the RRAC Defender of the Week for the third straight time. This is the third set of conference awards for the 2022 volleyball season. 

Wade posted a .422 hitting percentage as the Gold Nuggets won their first two conference matches of the season over University of the Southwest (N.M.). The junior outside hitter from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 4.0 kills per set in the first contest and 3.7 in the second as Xavier swept both. Wade also produced her sixth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 11 digs in the first match against USW. She leads the RRAC in kills (114) and kills per set (3.8) this season. Xavier is 6-2 overall. 

Bustamante was named the starter and led the Saints to two victories over Paul Quinn College (Texas) with a career-high 88 assists. The sophomore setter from Laredo, Texas, posted 50 assists as OLLU won the conference opener, 3-1, and she tacked on 38 in a 3-0 sweep. Bustamante averaged 12.6 assists per set as OLLU moved to 5-3 on the season. 

Mungai led the Gold Nuggets in digs for the eighth time in eight games. The junior libero from Busto Arsizio, Italy, registered 15 and nine digs in the two matches against the Mustangs. Mungai was credited with 42 service receptions and no errors for the weekend. She currently leads the RRAC and ranks 10th in the NAIA with 5.9 digs per set
