Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Terps came back from two separate deficits but couldn’t secure the win, dropping a match against Michigan State 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-16, 8-15).
After dropping the first set, the Terps put together one of their most dominant frames of the year. The set featured a 7-0 Maryland run as well as the Terps recording back-to-back aces two separate times. Maryland also notched 11 kills in the frame.
The third set went back-and-forth throughout until the Spartans pulled away late for a 25-19 victory. Laila Ivey and Sam Csire both crossed the kills double-digit mark in the frame.
For the second time of the day, the Terps responded to a dropped set with a resounding start, this time jumping out to a 9-1 lead. They finished the frame just as strong to send the match to a decisive fifth set before ultimately falling.
With the loss, the Terps fell to 9-6 and 0-3 in conference play while the Spartans moved to 10-4, 1-2.
Blocking Bananza
- The Terps notched 14 blocks to Michigan State’s six, continuing their season-long streak of out-blocking their opponents.
- Rainelle Jones, the nation’s leader in blocks, had the team-high in blocks with eight while Laila Ricks and Anastasia Russ each added six.
Notable Numbers
- 3: The number of Terps who recorded at least 10 kills. Csire led the way with 15 while Ivey and Russ added 13 and 11, respectively.
- 9: The number of service aces Maryland notched, led by Erin Engel’s three.
