USC Beach Volleyball Pairs Set for Inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Championships

Women’s Beach Volleyball | October 31, 2022

LOS ANGELES – The five-time national champion USC beach volleyball program will send two pairs to the inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships in Huntsville, Ala., this weekend (Nov. 4-6), head coach Dain Blanton announced on Monday, Oct. 31.

Each of USC’s pairs will feature a freshman and a graduate transfer. Madison White (Scottsdale, Ariz./ASU Preparatory Academy) will team with Madison Shields (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Pepperdine); and Bailey Showalter (North Bend, Wash./Mount Si HS) pairs with Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope (Dallas, Texas/LSU).

The event will feature both a women’s pairs national championship and a men’s team national championship. The women’s competition will showcase top players from Division I and Division II schools across the United States, including pairs from each of the 16 teams that made the 2022 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.

In total, key players from 44 college beach volleyball programs will take part in the three-day fall tournament, which consists of traditional pool play on Friday (Nov. 4), followed by bracket play on Saturday and Sunday. The format ensures that all pairs will play each of the three days.

Specific details on the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships, including the list of schools for the participating pairs, is available on the event info page.

Legislation passed this May by the NCAA, which allows multiple-day events for college women’s beach volleyball players during the fall season, paved the way for the championships. This first-of-its-kind event will take place at John Hunt Park, which is home to a multimillion, state-of-the-art beach volleyball complex with 15 lighted courts in the heart of Huntsville.

The city was awarded the championships for the next three years (2022-24) as part of a collaboration between the AVCA and a group of local partners: the city of Huntsville, the Huntsville Sports Commission, Rally Volleyball, Beach Volleyball Consulting, and the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Under fourth-year head coach Dain Blanton, the USC beach volleyball team captured its fourth NCAA Championship (fifth national title) and fourth Pac-12 crown in 2022. The Women of Troy finished the year ranked No. 1 and had a record of 37-1 with a 36-match win streak intact…
