Alberto Mauricio Earns Third Empire 8 Player of the Week Honor


ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 Athletic Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, with outside hitter Alberto Mauricio ’26 earning Player of the Week accolades for men’s volleyball.
 

The San Pedro De Macoris, Dominican Republic native recorded a match-high 20 kills to go along with a career-high 18 digs in a 3-0 victory for the Purple & Gold on Saturday against Kean University. Mauricio finished with a .361 hitting percentage on 36 total attempts in the match, which is a season-best.
 
Mauricio also paced the Soaring Eagles in a matchup against No. 10 SUNY New Paltz on Saturday as he tallied 15 kills and hit .321 despite seeing Elmira drop a 3-0 decision against the Hawks. Mauricio leads Elmira with 256 kills this season and is averaging 4.83 kills per set. His 256 kills rank second in the Empire 8, while his 4.83 kills per set are tops in the conference.
 
This is the third time that Mauricio has collected Empire 8 Player of the Week honors this season, after doing so on February 20 and January 30.
 
The Soaring Eagles return to action on March 15 for a UVC contest on the road against St. John Fisher beginning at 7:00 P.M.
