Arizona Drops Five Setter to Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Wildcats dropped a five-set heartbreaker (27-29, 25-26, 25-23, 16-25, 12-15) to Oregon State on Sunday afternoon.  
 
Sofia Maldonado Diaz led Arizona’s offense with 21 kills and Jordan Wilson followed with 17 kills.
 
Arizona’s defense totaled a season best 16 blocks. Nicole Briggs led the way with a career high eight blocks. Jaelyn Hodge also recorded a career best of seven blocks.
 
Oregon State won the first set, 29-27. Arizona held the lead for most of the set until the Beavers took the lead at 28-27 to win the set. The Cats hit .422 in the set with Maldonado Diaz recording nine kills and Wilson notching eight kills.
 
Arizona took the second set, 25-16, to even the match. The Cats’ offense hit .435 while the defense totaled five blocks and held Oregon State to a .154 hitting percentage. Maldonado Diaz led Arizona with four kills and Wilson followed with three kills. Five other Wildcats had one kill each in the set. Alayna Johnson led the way for the defense with three blocks while Briggs and Hodge had two blocks each in the set.
 
The Wildcats won Set 3, 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Arizona’s defense had six blocks – led by Briggs with block assists – to help the Cats win the set. Ana Heath recorded three blocks and Maldonado Diaz had two blocks in the set. A trio of Wildcats – Briggs, Maldonado Diaz, and Wilson – tallied three kills…
