STANFORD, Calif. – Desiree Becker recorded eight kills and eight blocks in the UCLA women’s volleyball team’s 3-1 loss to No. 3 Stanford at Maples Pavilion Sunday afternoon.
Set scores were 27-25, 23-25, 20-25 and 10-25.
The Bruins (10-8, 2-6) won a memorable first set in extra points before faltering in the remaining three, hitting sub-.100 in sets two and four. Redshirt senior middle blocker Anna Dodson was also effective today with eight kills at a .316 clip with five blocks.
The Cardinal’s (15-2, 8-0 Pac-12) Catie Baird recorded a match-high 17 kills in a double-double effort with 11 digs. Elia Rubin added 16 kills, 14 digs and three blocks.
UCLA erased an 18-14 Stanford lead in set one thanks to a 3-0 run at the service line with an ace by Carly Hendrickson. The two squads traded kills and blocks down the stretch. Highlighting the Bruins’ attack was Desiree Becker. The Cardinal had two set points at the line at 24-23 and 25-24 that were quickly answered by Becker kills. A service ace by Peyton Dueck and block courtesy of Dodson and Iman Ndiaye on the ensuing two plays put the first frame away in UCLA’s favor.
Becker totaled an error-free six kills on eight swings in set one.
