Rolla, Mo. – The No. 13 Lewis University women’s volleyball team fell, 3-1, at Missouri S&T Saturday (Oct. 28).

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Lewis 25, Missour S&T 22

Missouri S&T started fast, pulling out to a 7-2 lead. Lewis fought right back with a 9-2 run including five kills and two blocks to take the advantage. The Miners responded with a 6-0 push of its own to pull ahead, 15-11.

 

From there, though, the Flyers took over. A 5-2 burst got Lewis close, and a 6-0 run of its own gave the Flyers the lead for good. Stenman finished the opening set win with a kill.

 

Set 2: Missouri S&T 25, Lewis 14

Missouri S&T charged out to a 5-2 lead in the second set and never looked back. Lewis fought back with a 4-2 push, but a 7-0 outburst by the Miners brought the deficit to eight points.

 

From that point, neither team secured three points in a row for the rest of the set. Missouri S&T pushed the lead to as much as 12 points, and finished the set on a Lewis attack error.

 

Set 3: Missouri S&T 25, Lewis 23

Set three got out to a tighter start, at 2-2, before both teams alternated 3-0 runs. The Flyers took a 9-7 lead off of a 3-0 run, but the Miners came right back with a 5-1 push to go back on top.

 

From there, the sides alternated points with neither side able to gain much advantage. Lewis held a 23-22 lead late, but surrendered a 3-0 burst to Missouri S&T to finish off the set win.

 

Set 4: Missouri S&T 26, Lewis 24

The Flyers started strong in set four, taking a 3-0 lead early. Lewis still held a three-point advantage at 10-7, but the Miners then charged for five straight points and the advantage in the set.

 

Then, the Flyers pulled ahead again with an 11-6 run headed by four kills and two service aces. A 5-1 burst by Missouri S&T was enough to take a 23-22 set lead shortly thereafter.
