Buffs Suffer Five-Set Loss To Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Colorado women’s volleyball team (14-13, 6-10) suffered a five-set loss to the Arizona Wildcats (8-19, 3-13) at the McKale Center today. It was the Buffs’ third consecutive Pac-12 loss.

Each set finished close, with neither team ever winning by more than four points. Arizona took the first set 25-21, CU won the next two games 25-22 and 25-21, and the Wildcats closed out the match with the final two sets at 26-24 and 15-12.

Senior outside hitter Maya Tabron had another phenomenal day for the Buffs. She set a new career high in single game kills with 26. Even more impressive was that Tabron finished the match with a .438 hitting percentage.

Outside hitter Ana Burilovic and middle blocker Skyy Howard also earned double-digit kills, achieving 13 and 11 kills respectively. Burilovic also recorded her first career double-double by getting 13 digs.

The two teams were close in almost every statistical category. Arizona barely led CU in attack percentage, hitting .331 compared to the Buffs’ .317.

Colorado will return home for their final weekend at the CU Events Center when they face Washington State Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Washington Nov. 19 at noon. The Sunday match against Washington will also be CU’s senior day.

With Burilovic at the end line, the Buffs tied things up 12-12 before the Wildcats managed to score again. CU kept things close for the rest of the set, but Arizona pulled away at the end to take the first set 25-21.

SET TWO: Throughout the second set, the two teams were neck-in-neck, with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead. Back-to-back blocks late in the set gave Colorado an edge at 22-21. The Buffs expanded their lead with two kills and won the set 25-22.

SET THREE:  The Buffs jumped out to a 12-9 lead, forcing Arizona to utilize their first timeout. The Wildcats responded after the timeout to tie things at 12-12. From there, there were six ties in the set. Colorado built a small lead late in the game as three…
