ACC Announces Week 2 Volleyball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech senior outside hitter Tamara Otene has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while SMU graduate senior middle blocker Nnedi Okammor is the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played during the second week of the season. Additionally, Stanford senior Kami Miner has been named the ACC Setter of the Week and Duke’s Breonna Goss was tabbed the ACC Freshman of the Week.
 
Otene was named MVP of the BYU Nike Invitational, exploding for 41 kills (5.13 per set) over the course of two matches, helping lift Georgia Tech to victories over Lipscomb (3-0) and No. 14 BYU (3-2). Otene led the Yellow Jackets in kills in both matches, racking up 17 against Lipscomb, a new career-best during a three-set match, while hitting .571 hitting with 12 digs. It was her third double-double of the young season and marked the first match in Otene’s career in which she has recorded 10+ kills and a .500+-hitting percentage in a sweep. She followed by unleashing a season-high 24 kills in the Jackets’ five-set road victory over No. 14 BYU. The Auckland, New Zealand, native also recorded 13 digs for her fourth double-double in five matches this year. Otene finished the weekend averaging 5.13 kills per set on a .361 hitting percentage along with 3.13 digs per set and a whopping 5.5 points per set.
 
Okammor averaged 1.43 blocks per set throughout the Mustangs’ four matches last week. The middle blockee recorded nine blocks in SMU’s win over No. 2 Nebraska, while also hitting .364 throughout the match. Okammor finished the week with a .367 hitting percentage with 22 kills and an average of 1.43 blocks per set.  Okammor helped SMU to a 3-1 week with sweeps of No. 2 Nebraska, Milwaukee and Weber State.
 
Miner guided the Cardinal to a combined .340 hitting percentage in a pair of ranked wins over No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 24 Marquette in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The senior averaged 11.14 assists per set to go with 3.29 digs per set and 0.71 kills per set. The setter tied her season-high with 47 assists as the Cardinal hit .316 against the sixth-ranked Badgers. Miner also turned in 12 digs, three kills and an ace.
