Manama, Bahrain, May 19, 2023 – Al-Ahli narrowly beat Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force in hotly-contested three-setter 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 in the 9th-16th playoffs match in Pool G in the 2023 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Isa Bin Rashid Hall 1 on Friday.
Al-Ahli overcame a strong challenge from Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force in the opening set, making use of devastating attacks from Saled Anan Mohamed to take the thrilling set 25-19.
Hoping for a better performance, Diamond Food upped their tempo and hit back in the second set, but Al-Ahli continued their onslaughts. Both sides played with almost the same level, but Al-Ahli fared better at the final assault to snare the closely-contested set 25-23.
Conceding two sets in a row, the Thais gave it all out in the third set. Their great determination bore fruits when they levelled it at 14-14. Their 300-onsite fans cheered Diamond Food nonstop. The Thai side tried to please their fans with a possible win in this set, but they just let the win slip through their fingers and the hosts cruised on to capture the set 25-20 and match.
Saled Anan Mohamed chipped in with 23 points including 17 kills for Al-Ahli, while Mohamed Yaqoob contributed 16 points. Chaiwat Thungkham topscored with 14 points for Diamond Food Fine Chef-Air Force.
