All-American Trio; Colyer Named Nation’s Top Freshman

EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of a postseason run to the NCAA Elite 8, the Oregon volleyball team racked up three AVCA All-America honors as announced Wednesday morning. The governing body, represented by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee, recognized the standout seasons of Mimi Colyer, Brooke Nuneviller and Hannah Pukis.
 
Standout newcomer Colyer was named the 2022 AVCA National Freshman of the Year and was a third-team pick. For a third season in a row, Nuneviller was recognized and, after back-to-back second-team selections, earned her place on the All-America First Team. Pukis, in her first season in Eugene, secured second-team accolades.
 
There are 14 players on each of the three AVCA All-America teams—42 total—as well as 53 honorable mention selections.
 
With Wednesday’s announcement, Colyer, Nuneviller and Pukis become the third UO trio to earn AVCA All-America (team) honors in the same season, and the second triumvirate to do so under the watch of head coach Matt Ulmer.

Colyer puts a bow on her outstanding campaign as the Duck’s first-ever National Freshman of the Year, and the seventh in Pac-12 history. She becomes the first freshman in program history to be voted to one of the three All-America teams; Nuneviller was an honorable mention pick as a freshman libero in 2018.
 
Already the Pac-12 and AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year, Colyer completed the trifecta with Wednesday’s national award. She led all NCAA freshmen with 616.5 points and 533 kills, ranking 10^th and 11^th, respectively, in the nation overall. Colyer set a conference record as an eight-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week winner and with 26 kills against No. 7 Nebraska in the NCAA regional semifinal, she tallied the first 500-kill season for Oregon since 2013 (Liz Brenner).
 
The Lincoln, Calif., native finished the year fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.85 points per set and fifth with 4.20 kills per set while hitting .265 in her first collegiate season. Colyer led the Ducks with 40 aces and averaged 2.01 digs per set on her way to 12 double-doubles in…
