Cortland senior outside hitter Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) and senior defensive specialist/libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) have been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Nov. 3. Martens earned the defensive honor for the fifth time this year.
In a 3-0 win at Morrisville last Tuesday, Pilkey finished with 11 kills, a .375 attack percentage, three aces and five digs and Martens recorded 16 digs and one ace and had seven service receptions without an error.
Pilkey has 231 kills (3.0/set) , a .226 attack percentage and 190 digs (2.5/set) in 77 sets over 27 matches this season. Martens has 417 digs (4.9/set), 38 aces and a .966 serve reception percentage in 85 sets over 27 matches.
Cortland (22-5, 9-0 SUNYAC) completed its fourth straight perfect SUNYAC regular season. The Red Dragons will play non-league matches this Saturday versus 19th-ranked Ithaca and Nazareth, both at Ithaca, and will host the SUNYAC tournament semifinals and finals Nov. 15-16.
