Arizona Swept by Stanford – University of Arizona Athletics

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Arizona was swept by No. 3 Stanford (8-25, 14-25, 23-25) on Sunday afternoon.
 
Arizona totaled four blocks in the match – led by Jaelyn Hodge and Alayna Johnson with three blocks each. Hodge led Arizona’s offense with 12 kills with a .393 hitting percentage.
 
Stanford took the first set, 8-25. Arizona won the first point but then the Cardinal went on a 7-0 run to take a large lead that Arizona couldn’t come back from. Stanford held the Wildcats to just five kills in the first set.
 
Arizona fell 14-25 in the second set to give Stanford a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wildcats had an early three-point lead over Stanford, but the Cardinal stormed back to win the set. Hodge led Arizona’s offense with three kills and Johnson led the defense with three blocks.
 
The Wildcats lost the match after falling 23-25 in Set 3. The Wildcats found their offense in the third set, hitting .333 on 18 kills. Hodge tallied seven kills and Sofia Maldonado Diaz followed with five kills. The Wildcats kept the third set close with 11 ties in the back-and-forth set. Arizona tied the game at 22-22 but Stanford was able to score the final three points to win the match.
 
Arizona returns home to host UCLA on Friday, Oct. 6 and USC on Sunday, Oct. 8. The Wildcats will be hosting the Arizona Volleyball: The Eras Weekend and will be giving away bobbleheads of Charita Stubbs and Dave Rubio.
