Bangkok, Thailand, August 2, 2024 – AVC on Friday conducted the drawing of lots for the 2024 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship, which will get underway in Yazd City, Iran from September 8 to 15, with, following the withdrawal of Mongolia, a total of 11 strong teams of the continents fighting for top honour and the only one slot for the 2024 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in India between December 10 and 15.

According to new rules and regulations sanctioned by FIVB and VolleyballWorld,  a total of 12 teams in the Asian Club Championship will be selected by the followings.

  1. Host team
  2. Three teams based on the final standing of the previous edition.
  3. Five teams from the best-ranked team of each zone from the previous Asian Club Championship. In case no team from a zone participated in the previous championship, the world ranking will be considered.

AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert conducted the drawing of lots on Friday at the AVC Headquarters in Bangkok with the assistance of Ms Patana Kittichaisombat from AVC Volleyball Department and AVC Secretariat Director Ms Phenyada Fuengthanthip. The ceremony was also shown live on Zoom, with AVC Sports Events Council Chairman Dr Eom Han-Joo from Korea and representatives from participating teams in attendance.

Mr Shanrit said ahead of the drawing of lots that AVC had tried very hard to coordinate with VolleyballWorld, the hosting country and participating teams to find a replacement for the withdrawn Mongolia.

However, until the Thursday night (August 1), no further decision about the replacement was made and AVC has finally confirmed to proceed with 11 participating teams. He added that following the requirement from the hosting nation, only one main competition venue will be served for the regional topflight club championship, as, the host nation reasoned, preparation and reservations have already been arranged.
