Egyptian giants Al Ahly crowned Arab Clubs Champions, going unbeaten on home soil
Al Ahly, which are also the defending African Clubs Champions, capitalised on home advantage to beat Al Nasr of Bahrain 3-0 (25-21, 25-09, 25-19) in the final last Thursday for a record-extending eighth title.
Al Ahly had beaten Al Seeb of Oman also in straight sets to reach the final while Al Nasr overcame Al Wakrah of Qatar 3-1 in the other semi-final. Al Seeb beat Al Wakrah 3-2 to claim the bronze medal in the prestigious event that is held annually.
Long serving Al Ahly duo of setter Abdullah Abdelsalam and opposite Ahmed Salah expressed their joy after adding another title to the club’s trophy cabinet.
“I would like to dedicate this title to our loyal fans. Our fans are our main supporters and we promise them that we will do everything to make them happy. We were determined to win the title and our players showed a fighting spirit that guided us to victory,” Abdelsalam told the club’s official website.
Salah said winning the Arab Clubs Championship title unbeaten was a sign of good things to come this season.
“It is always important to win such prestigious titles. Last season was not a perfect year and I am happy that we managed to have a strong start to this season. We have an amazing group and we will fight to win every title this season,” said the experienced opposite.
