Barton Wins First Freshman Of The Week Award

SEATTLE – Outside hitter Kierstyn Barton won the first Pac-12 weekly honor of her Husky career today as she was named Freshman of the Week. Barton helped the Huskies to a weekend split against the Bay Area schools, posting 22 kills for the week and hitting .250.

Barton, the Chandler, Ariz. native, is one of four Husky outside hitters that are all contributing in an evenly balanced attack. Her 2.92 kills per set for the season rank third on the squad, against No. 3 Stanford and California, Barton averaged 3.67 kills per set.

Washington fought hard against the third-ranked Cardinal last Friday, losing in a tight four setter despite missing two key starters. Barton had a lot to do with that, as she led the Huskies with 15 kills and hit .294 with an ace, four digs and a block.

On Sunday in a 3-1 victory over Cal, Barton had seven kills, four digs and a block.

Earlier this season, Barton had the most kills in a match by a Husky freshman since Christal Morrison in 2004, posting 26 kills in a five set win at Cal Poly.

This is the first Pac-12 weekly award for a Husky this season, and the first Freshman of the Week for Washington since Emoni Bush won it on Oct. 18, 2021.

The Huskies (11-6, 2-4 Pac-12) are up to No. 30 in the RPI this week and host Colorado and Utah at Alaska Airlines Arena this Friday and Sunday.
