PULLMAN, WASH. – California volleyball (7-15, 0-12 Pac-12) finished off the last weekend of October with a rematch against the Washington State Cougars (15-7, 7-4), who swept Cal last month in their first meeting of 2022. Ultimately, the result on Sunday was much the same, despite a close third set, as the Cougs ended the afternoon with a 3-0 victory.
Freshman Mikayla Hayden led the Bears with 8 kills on a .375 hitting percentage and 5 total blocks, while sophomore Annalea Maeder posted 17 assists and junior Tara DeSa ended the match with a team-high 9 digs.
Washington State won the first set by a score of 25-6, following up with a more competitive 25-18 second set Cougars win that contained a pair of 3-0 Cal scoring runs. The third set, a 25-22 WSU victory that included four lead changes and a run with three straight blocks from the Bears, marked Cal’s 19th Pac-12 set of the season that was decided by 5 points or fewer in favor of the opponents.
